A Souls-Like project focused on level design.
This is my FYP it focuses on creating a level inspired from games made by FromSoftware, my goal with the project is to create a level and promotes exploration where the player has no mini map and is instead forced to go out and naturally explore and find checkpoints and secrets hidden in the level.
The project consists of two areas, a smaller introductory area and a larger explorable one with checkpoints and more vertical traversal. The art assets and basic combat implemented are from the unreal store which allowed me to just focus on the level design and implementing mechanics like the checkpoint system.
As the Design got solidified and I got some feedback from playtests I adjusted certain things about the map like removing certain buildings and resizing others to better fit with the meshes I had available. The main reason I removed some buildings were because as I did the playtests the feedback I received showed me that since the project does not really have collectibles and the goal of the level is just to unlock the castle gate players do not like just going through a bunch of buildings just for one item hence the reduction of buildings present.
Further meshing to add a mountain range surrounding the city and repurposing some buildings to better fit the available meshes and just overall polishing the level even more to make it complete.
